Mission Statement
|
The Lynchburg Child
Interview Center provides a safe, child-friendly space where children
who are suspected of being abused receive forensic interviews and
coordination of necessary services. The Center exists to minimize
trauma experienced by child and adolescent victims of sexual and
physical abuse in connection with the investigative and prosecutorial
process. |

History
|
Lynchburg’s Multidisciplinary Team (MDT)
has been in operation for years. In 2002, the MDT formalized its
coordinated response with a written protocol. In 2002, the MDT felt that
a child advocacy center would be the most ideal location for children to
receive forensic interviews and coordination of services and began to
work toward that goal. In 2005, the MDT received a grant from Virginia’s
Office of the Secretary of Health and Human Services to establish a
child advocacy center. The center, which is known as the Child Interview
Center, is located in the historic Lynchburg Human Services Building. It
is decorated in vibrant, yet soothing colors with a “world” theme. The
Center’s slogan is “A World of Difference for Kids.” There is a separate
interview room with DVD-recording capability. |
